After I had decided to file bankruptcy I started looking for a Bankruptcy Attorney. My first stop was my local yellow pages, I found that there were plenty of lawyers listed but no real way to tell who was the best. I also got letters in the mail from attorneys as they learned of impending forclosures in the paper.

These aggressive attorneys are not always the best attorneys to hire. I answered a few of the letters and interviewed one of the attorneys at his office. What I found was a confusing, busy office with tons of people running around like chickens with their heads cut off. The lawyer seemed like he would peel over from a heart attack due to stress and when we discussed my case, he indicated that I would have to spend a day there filling out paperwork and basically doing all the grunt work ! All this for a fee of $1,000 for chapter 7 which he was not sure if I could file.

The next stop was to a lawyer recommended from another attorney I know. This office was a little more professional, and there was not a tornado of people running around his office. We discussed my case, he qualified me for Chapter 7 and agreed to a price of $1400 with me not having to lift a finger. I had a spreadsheet of all my debts with Creditor name and account number, and balance owed. From this list he said he could file everything needed, since most of the credit card companies were already in his system. He answered all my questions, was very professional and seemed like a confident laywer. He has handled many bankruptcy, had a good knowledge of the judges and trustees and felt confident my chapter 7 bankruptcy would go through without issue. He was hired, and we scheduled a date to do the filing.
